Hi everyone,
It is day 3 for my new blog.  Dave and I went camping this past week.  We went to Wallace State Park about an hour north of our home.  We arrived around 1:00pm shortly after lunch.  Found a campsite we liked, put our camper there to secure a place and then went to the camp office to pay.  The camp hosts were very friendly and very helpful.  We returned to the camp site to set up camp.  Since this was our first time out with this camper everything took longer to do.  It took us 2 hours to finally get set up.  I was warn out by 5pm.  No arguments broke out between Dave and I so that was good.  By 5pm we were ready to start a fire and have our hot dogs over the open fire.  We have decided that our first night out camping we will have hot dogs just for tradition.  Sounds good to me.  Simple and easy.  We warmed beans in the can over the open fire and they turned out great. Then we rounded the dinner out with chips and s'mores for dessert.  A great first dinner.  As the night came on it grew very dark.  We had a little difficulty keeping our fire going, but Dave being the great fire builder he is was able to keep it going.  About sunset the tree frogs began to serenade us with their singing,  They were very loud but very proud of their songs.  Around 10:00pmDave and I were getting tired so decided it was time to go to bed.  We both get our own beds in this pop-up camper which is good since I am a big snorer.  My first night of sleeping was a little rough.  Not being use to the tree frogs singing and the small heater making noises I lay awake until 3am.  At that time the frogs stopped singing and we turned off the heater and then I fell right to sleep.  We were back up at 7:00am with coffee and muffins for breakfast.  It was really nice.

Oh I forgot to say that the weather was a bit unusual for August. Temps in the upper 60s and very windy.  I wore long pants and a jacket. I liked it.

Our second day of camping was sunny, warm and a slight breeze and temps in the 70s.  Great camping weather.  We spent time at the lake in the park taking pictures and taking a little walk down by the spillway.  The lake is the trail head for all the trails.  Dave took a small walk around the lake following the trail for a small distance.  After taking pictures and enjoying nature we went back for lunch.  We had walking nachos.  You might know them as walking tacos.  Dave thought they were more like nachos that tacos.  We liked them.  Will have them again.  After lunch we took a drive into Cameron.  We had never be in that town so the drive was very nice.  Saw some great architecture and some silly things.  Flamingos in one yard and the different kind of wind mill in another and some really pretty flowers at the dog pound.  The picture of the Public school indicates that the school is empty now and is now used for weddings, and gatherings.  In other words they rent out the rooms to the public.  We do not know the story on the house that sat across the street from the school, but we thought it was really cool.  After our drive through Cameron back to camp we went.  Dave took a 2 hour nap and I painted my walking stick and read a magazine.

At five Dave started the fire for dinner.  That night we had steaks. zucchini, onions, and corn on the cob.   All cooked on the open fire.  Just like home.  This is one of our favorite meals to cook on the grill.  No dessert this time.  After clean up we sat and watched the fire until 9pm and went to the shower house for showers.  The shower house was very clean.  On our way back we stopped in the road turned off the car lights.  When we stepped outside the car, you could not see your had in front of your face it was pitch black.  We turned our attention upward to the sky and oh my what a light show.  There were millions of stars.  It was so amazing to see so many stars.  When you are in the city you only see a few of what is out there.  Back at camp we hit the sack and I slept like a log.
A great nights sleep.  Coffee and donuts for breakfast.  Yum! Yum!

Friday morning we decided to take a drive down the back roads to find some old barns.  I love old barns.  We found the one I have pictures of here in this blog.  It was a great picture taking opportunity.  I hope you like it.  After I drive off to camp for a wrap for lunch and start folding up to go home.

Once again it took us about two hours because we were arranging and rearranging.  We  will get faster as time goes on hopefully.

This was a great camping experience we had a wonderful time.  Come back and read my next blog.  We are heading out to Weston Bend State Park tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy the pictures I took.  Can't wait to take more this week.

Until we meet again,
Happy Camping
